RV Road Notes is a small, road-tested site about camper van conversions and camping recipes, and like most sites that share real gear and ingredients, we sometimes use affiliate links. This page explains exactly how that works, what it means for you as a reader, and how we decide what gets recommended in the first place.
When we mention a product — a propane oven used in a foil packet recipe, a specific awning bracket for a 4x4 camper van build, a mason jar brand we trust for pack-and-go egg prep — that mention may be linked through an affiliate program, most commonly Amazon Associates or a similar retailer partner program. If you click that link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission. This applies to shopping links only, not to every link on the site; navigational links, source citations, and links to other pages on RV Road Notes are never affiliate links.
This is the part people most want confirmed, so we will say it plainly: using an affiliate link never costs you anything extra. The price you see at checkout is the same price you would pay if you had typed the retailer's website into your browser directly. The commission, when there is one, comes out of the retailer's marketing budget, not out of your wallet. We do not mark up prices, and we do not have any control over what a retailer charges.
We do not build posts around whatever pays the highest commission. Every recipe or conversion story on this site starts from something we actually did — a Dutch oven meal cooked at a campsite, a step in a Ford Econoline build, a side awning installed on a friend's rig — and product mentions come out of that real experience, not the other way around.
Commission rate is never the deciding factor in whether something gets mentioned. If a cheaper or better tool exists and we know about it, we'll say so, even if it isn't the one that pays us. You can read more about how we approach accuracy and product mentions generally in our Editorial Policy.
Because camping recipes and van conversion guides both tend to reference tools and ingredients naturally throughout the text, we keep the disclosure simple rather than burying it. You'll typically see a short affiliate note near the top of any post that contains shopping links, and this standalone page serves as the full explanation for the whole site. For a broader look at how compensation, gifted products, and sponsored mentions are handled beyond affiliate links specifically, see our general Disclosure page.
This disclaimer is specifically about affiliate shopping links. It does not cover how we handle sourced images, which is addressed on our Image Credits page, or how we treat visitor data and cookies, which is covered in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If a post links to a Pinterest pin or embed, that has its own separate note explained on the Pinterest Disclaimer page.
RV Road Notes exists because we like being on the road, cooking real food out of a propane oven or a Dutch oven, and figuring out camper van builds one bolt at a time. Affiliate links help offset some of the real costs behind that — fuel, tools, ingredients, the occasional replacement part when a build doesn't go as planned — but they're a small part of the site, not the point of it. You can learn more about who's behind these posts on our About Us page, and the general rules that govern how we use content and links across the site are laid out in our Terms of Use.
If you ever come across a link that seems outdated, mismatched to the post, or you're simply curious why a particular product was chosen over another, we're happy to explain. Reach out any time at [email protected] and we'll get back to you directly. You're also welcome to check our Contact page for other ways to get in touch, including questions unrelated to affiliate links.
